Little Sydney

Last night, Marc and I decided to visit Red Lobster. I had received a gift card for MK and all I could think about were crab legs...and root beer.

We sat down for dinner and after quite a wait, the meal arrived. Sydney has tried everything we've eaten since she was able to eat solids. It is my attempted defense against picky eater issues. She's often turned down things I thought she would love to eat (i.e. grilled cheeseburger and some pizzas) and has instead devoured things I thought she might not even touch (i.e. OLIVES and strong cheeses). The same has happened with certain types of seafood. She will sometimes eat scallops and will rarely eat shrimp. Yesterday was the first time this year I ate crab legs. Wouldn't you know it! She ate at least a 1/3 of my dinner! She refused her dinner (grilled chicken) and would only eat mine. It was certainly bittersweet for me.

I love the fact that my daughter loved the crab so much. I am a seafood fanatic and often go without because my sweet husband isn't such a fan. So, it is nice to see that my daughter showed an interest. On the other hand, I LOVE them and was somewhat hesitant to share. I rarely get to eat them. After a few minutes, I looked into her big brown eyes that were full of excitement and gave in.

Sydney is changing so quickly these days. Her speech is fantastic and she is picking up new phrases and words all the time. For example:

"How 'bout dis, Mommy?" She uses that when she'd rather not wear what we've picked out for her.

"Thank you berry much!"

"Perfeckt!" She picked this up from my stepmom this weekend and has been using it constantly.

Someone mentioned yesterday that they had to bribe their kids to get them to kiss them. Me too! I have to threaten to tickle her for kisses. :) Sometimes I have to follow through. She laughs hysterically and gives in.

She is growing up way too fast for me!

With the boys, sometimes they don't kiss on demand but if I act like I'm crying and that gets them to run up and kiss me!

Hopefully you'll get some more crab legs to eat solo soon. What a strange thing for her to love! lol I have picky eaters here but if our little 2 year old eats it off OUR plate it's gotta be good! It's aggravating at times but whatever works! :)

What a sweet little girl! I did not like seafood too much growing up, but I think it was because we lived in Montana so meat was more readily available and cheaper :) I am glad that you gave in, and I am sure that she was too! :)

Sounds like a great dinner and Sydney sure sounds adventurous! Maybe next time you can get a sitter so you can enjoy your dinner :)

Oh boy, I love seafood too! We buy fat crab legs from Costco. Delish! My husband thinks they are better than any restaurant.

I read your friends blog Life with Hannah and Lily. I read about the Fancy Nancy book you sent. What a thoughtful gift! I was in floods of tears reading her blog. I realize I don't know her, but I will pray for her. I can't imagine anything more painful than the death of a child. I liked your post when you "got fancy" for Sydney when you tucked her in. I want to do things like that! So often I am uptight with all of the things that must(in my mind) get done. I want to just enjoy my child and be thankful for everyday that we have with her.

You are so fortunate that your daughter will try unusual foods. Good for her! When our children are young, they may be fussy, but as they become adults they eat just about everything. Then, it is a matter of making healthy choices and paying attention to portion control. When one of my kids once asked me the secret to a happy marriage, I said 'good nutrition', and of course everyone laughed. They thought I'd say something else. But, I still believe good health in one's latter years depends on sound nutritional habits. You feel better, have more energy, and look good.

That little gal of yours deserves a big 'butterfly kiss' on the forehead. Wish my eyelashes were longer...

You know you're a mom when you sacrifice your favorite food items and give them to the kids. I can't wait to see Syd in action in October!! :o)

Bonita-I'll give her one for you. Thanks. :)

Rach-I know. I know. I can't wait! :)
