Slacker!

Wow! I just noticed that my last post was Wednesday of last week. Funny, it doesn't seem like it has been that long. Guess I didn't have much to say. :)

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We did, but it was busy. Saturday we did chores and ran errands. I started my cooking marathon, which continued to Sunday. I made chili, beef stroganoff, spaghetti sauce (used also for lasagna) and beef stew (Jess-I totally thought of you the entire time I was making the stew! I still remember you making that for us when Syd was born. It makes me miss you that much more!). Our freezers are packed! I knew I'd probably better stock up for those cold evenings coming up. It is so much easier to have stuff made for weeknights. Obviously, this will give us a few weeknights free a week for a bit.

We put up our Christmas tree late last week. Sydney had a great time decorating it and doesn't understand that we are finished. :) She has asked for additional ornaments every day. :) Marc will be working a lot next month and we decided that we should just put it up and enjoy it since we will be home this year. I hate to admit it, because Christmas is probably my least favorite holiday, but I have really enjoyed looking at it. I think Sydney's excitement over it could be the big factor. Perhaps she and Nathan can change my attitude about Christmas.

Well, I hope everyone has a great day! Looks like it might be a busy day at work today despite the government holiday. I'm happy to be busy!

I am dreading Christmas and wish, in a way, that we could skip forward to about March-ish. But, my son gets excited so there you have it. It's good to see a post from you. I wish I had your ambition.

I thought about making beef stew tonight for dinner! I am too late now, though, so it will go in the crock pot in the a.m.

I can't believe you guys have your tree up already- I can't deal with Christmas until Thanksgiving is over. I am so not a holiday person, it just seems that everyone tries so hard to have a good holiday season and it never turns out to be as fun as we are all pretending it is. It is like adding a part time job to my already busy life. Just call me the Grinch, I guess. I'm sure Ella is going to be crazy in love with a tree, though. She is already fascinated by the ones up in stores, especially all the shiny tinsel and garland. :-)

Alex-

I knew I'd be opening a can of worms. :)

I think the first reason Christmas bothers me is that the focus has shifted from family togetherness to how-much-can-we-spend mentality. That really bothers me.

Second, for nearly the last thirty years, I've been running here, there and everywhere on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. For a while, there was no break whatsoever. Often times, as you remember, we work on Christmas Eve. It certainly isn't that I don't want to see people, but sometimes it is just so much in such a short period of time. I feel like there is no time to enjoy the time I'm spending with people because I have to worry about what time I need to leave to make it to the next stop.

Lastly and probably least important, I'm with Jess. There is so much work involved. It bothers me less now in the age of technology and because I'm not in school. I really really hated it when I was in school. All I wanted to do was focus on spending time with family and taking my exams.

This year, I'm going to try and continue to enjoy the stereotypical Christmas stuff (i.e. make cookies for Santa, drink hot chocolate, listen to Christmas music, etc.). We'll see how it goes! :)

Yes, take it easy and enjoy each little Christmas festivity and event.

I also cook large meals and freeze them, so that I really only need to cook a couple of times a week. Think of all that 'clean up time' that we save.

All of a sudden I am hungry! All your food sounds really yummy :)

I totally agree about Christmas - I wish all the hoopla would die down and we could just focus on the meaning of Christmas and spend time with family.

That is a great idea to stock up and freeze some meals! If I only had the space...

Christmas is here too fast now! Rach and I were amazed at how many houses we saw with lights this past weekend.

I did not grow up celebrating Christmas, so I am really into it now after years of going to friends houses on the day. Yay for a day to spend in reflection in gratitude, if anything :)

Oh my gosh girl. You are making me feel like one big slacker. You are doing all this cooking, decorating and all the while carrying another being in your body. Ugh. Wish I had your energy. Brian has put a budget on Christmas spending, being as though we live in the money pit. We have a lot we want to do to the house this winter. Kudos to you!!!

I agree with the Christmas discussion. I think we need to get back to the true meaning of Christmas. I also refuse to decorate before Thanksgiving. It seems like it gets earlier every year. I saw Christmas stuff out at Target a week before Halloween this year.
