Today is my official due date and I am at work. I don't expect to be leaving either. I'm just following my normal routine. :) Just wanted to give you an update.
I finished 'Marley and Me' this weekend. I enjoyed it immensely and could certainly relate. Sunday evening I started 'The Glass Castle' by Jeannette Walls. Already, I am halfway through. It is a very quick read and I was hooked in the first ten pages. If you haven't already, you should definitely read this book. I have several other books waiting for me and I hope to get to them shortly. It is so nice to read books for fun! What a switch!
I decided yesterday afternoon, after speaking with Sydney's principal, that I am going to attempt to keep Sydney at home with me while I am on maternity leave. I will have help the first week or two so, that will be a good time to assess the situation. I was worried that I might completely disrupt Sydney's schedule and progress in school or overwhelm myself. Sydney was a very demanding baby and we had a very rough first few months. It makes me curious about Nathan's temperament, which remains to be seen. Regardless, I decided that this is a rare opportunity to spend additional time with my daughter and do some bonding. I didn't want to kick myself in the butt later for not even attempting to make it work. So, we're going to give it a go. After all, people do it all the time right? So can I (I hope). Can any of you great moms out there offer advice?
Well, I'm off to do some work. Thanks for checking in!

Those books are great suggestions! I think it will be great to have Sydney home with you too - some great opportunities to spend time together, for sure. :) I hope you have a great day!
I can't say I've officially read The Glass Castle but my mom was reading it while we were on Emerald Isle this summer and she read most of the book aloud to me because she was so shocked by the neglect of the parents. So, I feel like I've read it! It is an unbelievable book and I wonder how many kids have such derelict parents. Why in the world did that woman have 5 kids?
Whatever you end up deciding about Syd being with you or not, don't feel bad. Ella is going to go to preschool from 9-12 on Mondays and then 9-4 on Thursdays because I am really worried about how I am going to juggle two. I am tired with just one at home with me. Ella was also challenging in that she never seemed to want to sleep for any reasonable duration and I will be interested to see if this baby is the same. Is there anyway you could let her go part time if you need the help? I hope this time around we aren't both as overwhelmed as we were with our firsts (at least I felt overwhelmed!) because we kind of know what we are doing and not having to try and figure it all out. :-)
those books were both book club books for us last year! i loved marley & me, but glass castle is still on my nightstand. i'm excited to read it.
you'll do great with both kids at home. it really isn't that bad. maya was a terrible baby, too, but mason was so, so mellow. it's nice to have a little friend to snuggle with.
it won't be long now!!!
