The Big 3-0 on the 30th!

Well, today is my birthday and so far, it has been pretty interesting.

Just after the alarm went off this morning, Sydney came barrelling into our room to announce, "I peed in the bed, Dad!" I was pretty confused about this because, although Syd wears underwear all day, we haven't attempted any nighttime training yet. Marc checked it out and sure enough, she had managed to pee around her diaper. Funny, but frustrating when you've got to get to work. Sydney, of course, made up for it when she climbed into the bed and sang 'Happy Birthday' to me and Madison, our dog.

Unfortunately, there were a few more hiccups this morning that added to the rocky start. I won't bore you. Let's just say I was ready to get back into bed and try again tomorrow. Thankfully, for the most part, I am back on track.

I got a call from my mommy on the way to work! :) She had lots of energy and positivity to spread my way, which really helped me get back into the birthday spirit. Shortly thereafter, my dad called, another good conversation. I've gotten a few b-day emails and cards. My sister just cld. :) I miss her so much. My boss got me a new DB purse!!! I'm so spoiled. I love it! Next on my list, I'm going to order new pots and pans from QVC. My grandparents and mother in law gave me money for my b-day! :) YAY!

I hope you all have a great day!

Thankful Thursday

Wow! I cannot believe it is Thursday already. Seems like it was only just yesterday I was watching 'Desperate Housewives' on tv and wishing I had just one more day off. You know you can never get enough! :)

So, I had very light traffic again this morning and I stopped into Starbucks. They were a little busier today and they had a backup barista taking orders from line at the pastry case rather than at the bar. This helps them move faster, but I don't like it as much because I have to yell what I want across the store. I cannot help but be embarrassed about such silly things. Goofy right?

Anyway, as I was leaving, I passed by the same man I've been passing for the last SEVEN years. Actually, I'm thinking it might be six because I don't thing the Starbucks here opened the first year. In any event, I left the store wondering what the man's name is and what he does. After so many years of passing and exchanging hellos, you would think that one of us would have made an introduction by now. Of course, not me, I'm terribly shy. :) Instead I just play a guessing game in my head about what he does that allows him to hang out at the Starbucks every morning. I've often thought he is an aged and wise professor at GMU or GWU and how interesting it would be to find out his thoughts on social issues. He looks like he could teach sociology.

On other days, I guess that he is independently wealthy and likes to people watch. So, he gets up, showers and heads to the Starbucks to watch who comes in and out. Then, I wonder if he is a journalist. The list goes on and on. I've decided that I'll probably never know more than I do. He will always be the older gentleman who sits by the door at Starbucks reading the morning paper. One day he, or I, won't be there anymore.

Well, on to my list! Today I am thankful for:

1. my family and friends.
2. my decaf tall vanilla mocha and blueberry coffee cake. Thanks Dad and Jenn for the giftcard!
3. my reliable car that got me to work. My boss' VERY expensive car went to the shop again this week.
4. my cushy job at a desk. Seriously, it is bitter outside today and I'm warm. I bet those construction workers are feeling it.
5. not running any hosiery this week! Yay! I made it one whole week. Oh no, it is still early. Hope I didn't jinx it.
6. making it through one year without Mr. Colby. We had to put him to sleep one year ago Sunday and it was the hardest thing I have yet to do. I miss him so much.
7. my brother, Wes, who takes time out to come hang out with us every week. I love you! I know you're reading today.
8. a sense of humor. I've really needed it this week. What a difference it makes!
9. Lt. Col. Tom, who is currently serving in Iraq. He is a million miles from his wife and three children. I know it isn't easy. I'm thankful for his, and his family's, sacrifice.
10. Subway. I had a great sub from there yesterday.
11. giving people that work in my building. We collected a ton of food for the FBA canned food drive! Yay!
12. my Sydney's sweet voice. She is ready to sing 'Happy Birthday' to mommy tomorrow. She has been practicing. I cannot think of a better gift. Well, maybe in a few years she and Nathan will sing to me.
13. the leftovers in my fridge. Tonight, there is no cooking.
14. my new shirts! Of course, I love them. My mom picked up a few maternity tops for me and I've been enjoying them all week. Today's is my favorite, pink cashmere. It is so soft. Thank you, mommy.
15. tomorrow's paycheck.
16. my skin. It is so sensitive, but clear. I'm very fortunate.
17. my Hickory Farms delivery. It finally came! I've been waiting for weeks. I cannot wait to enjoy it. NOW, it feels like Christmas time.
18. my memories of staying at Granny and Don's when I was a kid. I am convinced there is no better garden for a child's imagination than the wide-open field of a farm. I used to ride my three-wheeler up and down the gravel road while singing "Cool Rider" at the top of my lungs. I know I was a dork. I still am. Now, I just sing Celine Dion at the top of my lungs while ironing clothes. Sydney thinks it is quite funny.
19. Oysters. Seriously, I wish I had some right now!
20. my shoes. I LOVE THEM! I have had them for probably nine years and they are still in great shape. They are so comfortable. I worried at the time that I was spending too much ($70). I'd say I got my money's worth! Yay Nine West!
21. Rascal Flatts. I'm listening to them right now. "At last I can see, that life has been patiently waiting for me....I'm not alone."
22. my sister. I miss you so much right now I can barely stand it. I know you have no idea.
23. patience. I'm happy to have the patience to sit and wait for things to work themselves out. Well, I try.
24. the birds outside my office window. They are often putting on shows and serenading me.
25. one more day on this earth. It is one more day to attempt to get it right.

Please Listen to the Words that are Coming Out of My Mouth!

I am having quite a chuckle this morning at someone in my life. This person, although very sweet and kind, is...dare I say it, DENSE!

Now, we all have our days. I know I do, often. However, this individual is really an exception as every day is a "day". One of my least favorite parts of my job is telling people when they are not meeting the mark. It really and truly sucks, especially when the person is so sweet. I had such a conversation with this individual on Monday. It was a "last chance" conversation. I always feel like such an ogre. During the conversation, I clearly outlined the issues and explained the steps necessary to correct each item. I left the meeting feeling terrible, but satisfied that we were both on the same page.

Today, I find out that one of the steps I asked her to take to correct just one of the many issues had not been taken. When I asked why it hadn't been done, I got blank stare and, after a very pregnant pause, a lame excuse. So, I had to resort to "interpretive dance". This is what my Rachel calls it. :) I use props and everything. Really, it is just a slow recap of what we have discussed. In this case, I used my chair, a notebook and some of my dramatic energy. Typically, it really breaks the ice and we both end up laughing. Today was no exception. This is a very rare event and I pull it out only when I have exhausted all other means of communication. Seriously, it has been SIX months of this nonsense. It has, in the past, worked wonders in the worst of subjects, but I question the effectiveness this time. We'll see. Sigh.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a miracle! I really really hate being a bad guy.

A Devastating Loss

By now you have all heard that Sean Taylor passed away last night from his gunshot injury. You can read the story here. I'm in shock. What an incredible loss to his friends, team, supporters and above all, his family. Taylor leaves behind a daughter that will never know her father. My heart goes out to her and his surviving family and friends.

They are investigating as if it was a burglary. For the record, I don't believe it was a burglary.

The capability for humans to be so violent never ceases to amaze me. I'm not so naive to think that we should all hold hands and sing songs, but...I just don't understand. I know I never will.

I swallowed a turkey, really!

I hope everyone had a great holiday! We sure did. I have officially concluded that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and, although I didn't get to see everyone I wanted to this year, it was absolutely wonderful!

My mom spent days preparing for the big feast and it showed! Not only was the food awesome, but there was enough to feed a small country left when we were finished. Of course, we were happy to help with the leftovers. I have eaten a turkey sandwich every day since. I would be happy to eat them for another week, but alas, I'm nearly out of turkey. You should see my waistline! Ha ha! Thanks, Mom! It was soooo good.

We also had the chance to visit with my dad and his side of the family on Friday. Of course, another good meal. This time, ham. Yum! We had our Christmas exchange while we were there and it was so much fun. Sydney is going to be a blast this holiday. She is really into opening gifts. She helped my grandfather open a package and she was disappointed to find a shirt. She looked at me and said, "I don't want this." I had to crack up.

We spent the rest of the holiday vegging, eating, napping and just doing as little as possible. It was absolutely wonderful! :) How lucky are we? We did manage to make it to the grocery store yesterday to pick up a few things for the week and to pick up a pile of groceries for the food drive. I'm excited to say that our building filled our huge tub with canned goods and then some! I will be delivering lots of food to the FBA meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

I didn't cook once over this long weekend. I missed it. I have a new appetizer recipe to try this week for my Christmas dinner. I'm looking forward to making it. Too funny and totally lame! :)

Well, I'm looking forward to reading all the blogs I missed while I was out of town.

Have a great day!

Guess What Time It Is!

Don't anyone fall over in the floor, but it is 3:03am! My hips were driving me absolutely crazy and I thought I should get out of the bed for a while to stretch them out. In addition to the hip issue, I've been worried about some gift certificates I ordered. Silly huh? Pregnant women worry about some goofy stuff in the middle of the night! :) Well, truthfully, I am not sure the pregnancy has much to do with the worry. The hips, yes.

I'm celebrating Christmas with my dad's side of the family this weekend so I was wrapping presents tonight. I realized tonight that a short stack of gift certificates I had ordered, and I feel fairly certain we received them, were missing. So, I've been worried about them for the last several hours. I finally decided to come log in and see if I had actually received them. After all, it is equally as silly to worry when I can check on it and make myself feel better. Turns out they were mailed to us at home. We've been organizing like mad people here so I just know one of us has thrown them out. THANKFULLY they can be resent! Also, I'm happy I realized while it was still November! These gift cards will be distributed closer to the actual holiday. What a relief! I was so concerned that we would lose the money. I'm certainly not willing to toss a couple hundred bucks in the garbage and smile about it. Ha! Ha!

So, now that Christmas is saved and my hips have had a rest, I suppose I can go back to bed. That alarm clock is going to go off sooner than I want. :)

Happy Day! :) BTW-If this doesn't make sense...it is 3am. I have a hard time making sense during daylight hours! :)

Oxi Clean Spray to the Rescue!!

If you haven't tried it yet, run out and get some! Oxi Clean Spray was recommended to me by a friend and I had it tucked it my purse for nearly a month when I finally got to try it. :) I know, how amazing is that?! I have a messy two-year-old.

While we were out on Friday morning having breakfast, Sydney managed to cover her new zipup with strawberry syrup. Ipes! We hadn't even gotten to school yet. These things bother Marc a lot less, but I just cannot stand to send Syd to school in spotted clothes. It has to be pretty faint. This, of course, makes no sense because she gets the dirtiest at school. I guess I fear that someone will think we are not taking care of her. Silly, I know.

Anyway, this stuff wiped out nearly all of the syrup! STRAWBERRY SYRUP!! How cool is that?

I think I am going to put them in my Christmas work baggies. We are always making messes here! :) Some here are messier than others! What a helpful thing to have!
