It started with Samhain (kind of sounds like sowan) which is a Celtic festival. They celebrated their new year on November 1st and so on the night before (Oct 31) they had a festival during which they believed the lines were blurred between the living and dead. The harvest came into play because they were so dependent on the production of the land. There is soo soo much more that goes into it and also to how it has become what it is now but if you're interested check out this site http://www.history.com/minisites/halloween/viewPage?pageId=713 or check out this book: "Halloween and Other Festivals of Life and Death" by John Santino.

Sorry to turn your blog into a lecture Jess! I figure it was primarily as a response to para-normal experiences that were beyond explanation. So many superstitions prevail even today, like the Bigfoot, or the Loch Ness monster, which are spooky. And crop circles...who does them; the solstice markers at Stonehenge and the stone slabs on Easter Island...how did they do that? I love the questions.Bonitahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09634611054014237422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8865443768375691759.post-79725070790997784692007-09-18T10:42:00.000-04:002007-09-18T10:42:00.000-04:00Hooray for the 'Skins!Rest assured the only thing ...Hooray for the 'Skins!

Rest assured the only thing that I was doing at 5:30 this morning was sleeping ;)

I am not sure if I believe in ghosts or spirits - there sure are a lot of weird things that happen that could be taken as a ghost in the room. I have never had a personal encounter with one. But I have heard some pretty compelling arguments for them. I have had some feelings that people that have passed on have their hand in my life. Or some messages from the "beyond" but I am not sure if that is a ghost or not... It will be interesting to see what others say...tiburonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11196432617889251213noreply@blogger.com
